Experience a unique adventure to the summit of Europe’s highest active volcano with an excursion to the Etna Summit Craters, an extraordinary adventure designed for those who dream of truly reaching the top. This summit craters trekking experience is one of the most complete and spectacular activities you can enjoy on the volcano.

The departure is scheduled from Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza, at approximately 1,900 metres above sea level, on the southern side of the volcano, the main access point to the summit craters from Etna South.

To begin the ascent, you will take the cable car, followed by a 4x4 minibus, which will take you up to 2,900 metres above sea level. From here, accompanied by an authorised alpine/volcanological guide, you will continue on foot along a high-altitude route to the highest permitted elevations, which may vary depending on the ongoing volcanic activity.

During the Etna summit craters excursion, you will have the opportunity to hike to the spectacular summit of Mount Etna, enjoying close-up views of the main active craters: Bocca Nuova, Voragine, South-East Crater and North-East Crater. An intense and powerful experience that allows you to observe the volcano’s primordial force up close.

The descent will take place entirely on foot, crossing areas affected by the most recent eruptions and secondary craters that have formed over time. Always accompanied by the guide, you will descend to an altitude of 2,500 metres, where you will take the cable car again to return to the starting point.

This excursion to the summit craters allows you to truly reach the top of Mount Etna, in small groups and in a unique, breathtaking natural setting. If weather and volcanic conditions permit, the activity takes place daily.
