Description
The best excursion for cruises that land in Catania to discover the Etna Volcano and the city of Taormina. This excursion designed for small groups combines history and nature ensuring maximum assistance and the best service to better enjoy the excursion on our territory.
 
A tour suitable for everyone, starting from the little ones! With us you will know the fascinating nature of the highest active volcano in Europe, along the edge of some extinct craters with wonderful views of the sea, admiring fantastic lunar landscapes and volcanic phenomena of the area. Once you arrive in Taormina you will visit this beautiful medieval village.
 
After the pick-up at the Port of Catania, you will move by car to reach the Sapienza Refuge, making stops during the journey at certain observation points.
 
Once at the Sapienza Refuge (1920 m a.s.l.) you can choose if:
  • Proceed with the guide on a trekking route through one of the Etna nature trails up to 2000 meters.
  • Buy the high altitude Etna option: thanks to the cableway offered by the Etna cableway, in 15 minutes you will reach 2504 meters, from here with special 4x4 off-road vehicles, in 20 minutes you will reach 2900 meters above sea level. (Torre del Filosofo). You will find yourself in front of a unique scenario, where you can see the central crater, the Southeast crater and the historic lava flows that distinguish the Etna landscape. With the help of the Alpine Guides (only in Italian-English) you can visit the places where the vitality of the Volcano emerges, in full compliance with the rules and in complete safety. You will reach the Sapienza refuge by public transport.
The excursion will continue with a visit to a lava flow cave with helmets and torches.
 
During the descent you will stop in Zafferana Etnea, in an organic production company, for a tasting of wines, honeys, olives and other local products.
 
You will then continue towards Taormina, first making a short stop in the enchanting "Isola Bella", a Nature Reserve considered the "pearl of the Ionian" for its wild beauty, connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand.
 
After lunch (not included in the price) you will dedicate the afternoon to visit the picturesque Taormina.
 
Along the main street of the town, Corso Umberto, closed downstream from Porta Messina and upstream from Porta Catania, you will admire the most important monuments: Palazzo Corvaja; Ancient theater *; Piazza IX Aprile; Clock tower; The Cathedral Fortress (Duomo); Badia Vecchia; Palazzo Duca di Santo Stefano and much more. It will also be possible to shop in the exclusive shops that alternate with characteristic craft shops.
