The tour will start next to the Kiosk in fornt of Catania Centrale station, where a train will take you to Giardini-Taormina station, in just over an hour. This historical station opened in 1866 as a central hub to connect the two Sicilian cities, still retains the elegant architectural lines in Art Nouveau style.
A bus will allow you to reach Taormina where you can admire the Medieval downtown and the well-known Ancient Theatre. The Greek theater is second in size to the one of Syracuse, built during the third century B.C. by the Greeks and later enlarged by the Romans, offers a suggestive view over the Ionian coast and majestic mount Etna, with its always smoking plume.
After lunch (not included in the price) and free time, you will visit Trevelyan Park, the City garden, built in the mid-nineteenth century by Lady Florence Trevelyan Cacciola. On a surface of 22,400 m² the English garden hosts many Mediterranean and Exotic plants as well as Eastern-inspired pavilions, originally used for bird watching.
You’ll leave Taormina downtown by cable car to head towards Mazzarò (ticket included). From the cable car station, you’ll reach on foot Isola Bella, an islet that once belonged to the same English noblewoman, now owned by the Ragione Siciliana, is covered by tropical plants and thick local vegetation. End of the services. With this unique background, you can take a swim before returning to Catania. It is possible to catch the train bck to Catania every hour from 4 PM.
