Description
A spectacular tour through the Etna hinterland and the Alcantara Valley, blending breathtaking landscapes, authentic villages, and historic landmarks.

This cycling loop is perfect for those who want to dive into the rural soul and scenic beauty of Eastern Sicily. Ride through a disused railway, discover the Byzantine Cuba, and explore the quiet, hidden gorges of the Alcantara. Live an unforgettable experience off the beaten path!

The experience begins with a scenic climb through the picturesque vineyards of Mount Etna, offering sweeping views and a taste of the region’s natural charm. Along the way, you’ll explore the historic centers of Piedimonte Etneo and Linguaglossa, where narrow streets and traditional architecture reveal the authentic character of Sicilian mountain towns.

The route then follows the path of an old abandoned railway, now a peaceful dirt trail that winds through unspoiled nature. As you descend into the Alcantara Valley, you’ll visit the remarkable Byzantine Cuba of Castiglione, a small medieval chapel full of mystery and charm.

Instead of the crowded tourist routes, this tour takes you to the lesser-known gorges of the Alcantara River, peaceful and enchanting spots where you can fully enjoy the beauty of this volcanic landscape. The journey concludes in the quaint village of Francavilla di Sicilia, a place steeped in history and local traditions, completing a truly immersive and memorable loop through the heart of Sicily.
