The tour begins with a visit to the charming seaside village of Giardini Naxos, the first Greek colony in Sicily, founded in 734 BC.
After a leisurely stroll along the seafront, which hugs the breathtaking Naxos Bay, you will head to Castelmola. Here, while wandering through the quaint streets of this picturesque hilltop town, you’ll explore the ruins of its majestic Norman walls and visit Piazza Duomo, home to the Mother Church. This church, rebuilt between 1934 and 1935 on the remains of an older cathedral, is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari. The experience of walking through Castelmola’s scenic alleys adds an extra charm to this part of the tour.
The itinerary continues toward Taormina, offering along the way a spectacular panoramic view from above of the beautiful Isola Bella, a Natural Reserve known as the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea.” Connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand, Isola Bella rises like a jewel set in a bay of turquoise waters, protected by the majestic headlands of Capo Sant’Andrea and Capo Taormina, which also shelter the enchanting Blue Grotto.
Upon arrival in Taormina, you’ll enjoy free time to explore its historic center. Stroll along the town’s main street, Corso Umberto, flanked at one end by Porta Messina and at the other by Porta Catania. Along the way, you’ll marvel at Taormina’s most iconic landmarks: Palazzo Corvaja, the Ancient Theatre*, Piazza IX Aprile, the Clock Tower, the Cathedral Fortress (Duomo), Badia Vecchia, Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano, and more.
You’ll also have the chance to shop in exclusive boutiques and discover charming artisan workshops. Finally, take in the scenic landscapes that served as the backdrop for the famous TV series White Lotus before returning to Catania.
